Alfred Peter Conteh's Ongoing Struggle for Equal Access Among All APC Members Persists.
A Message of Apprehension.
21st December 2022.
Greetings, Esteemed Members of the ITGC,
I hope this message finds you well. As we approach the holiday season, I extend my warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to each of you.
I am writing to express my concern and urge careful consideration, particularly for those entrusted with making decisions that impact our fellow members within the ITGC and the broader APC party. Our actions and deliberations as a committee must be guided by the collective welfare, ensuring a level playing field for all, rather than a select few.
Recent developments, including an audio recording attributed to Hon. Amb. Rev. Coleson Turay and a tweet allegedly from the Committee Secretary, have highlighted a situation involving data entry staff working diligently, but without clear knowledge among us, including myself as the ITGC Chairman. These incidents, alongside others of a similar nature, underscore a persisting division wherein some are seemingly more favored within the APC than others. I would like to emphasize that the denial of access to Hon. Coleson Turay to vacant party offices due to his affiliation with specific groups is not only a matter of concern but may also amount to contempt, given the legal mandate of a court-appointed official.
Myself and fellow committee members have observed instances of unilateral decisions and actions that do not align with the essence of a cohesive committee. These occurrences, unfortunate as they are, indicate a certain lack of civility. Addressing the concerns and grievances of our general membership necessitates a collective approach, as no single individual should wield the authority to make significant choices without committee consensus.
The Sub Committee assigned to oversee membership matters as outlined in Article 10 of the 2022 APC constitution has demonstrated commendable zeal and commitment in their duties. However, in their earnest pursuit of this weighty responsibility, they may have inadvertently overlooked the crucial need to maintain open communication with the ITGC. Furthermore, fostering unity and fairness in their undertakings is paramount. The significance of party membership cards cannot be understated, yet the Sub Committee's approach left some feeling disenchanted and excluded. A considerable number left with a sense of bitterness toward our party, while others even contemplate disruptive actions on voting day. Such outcomes could have been avoided had we embraced an inclusive stance, welcoming all willing registrants who meet the stipulated criteria.
I will pause my discourse at this juncture.
Tomorrow, if it is the will of Providence, we will delve extensively into these matters and more during our scheduled meeting.
May you remain blessed,
Alfred Peter Conteh,
Chairman, APC-ITGC.
